You have installed your domain, hosting and WordPress. Before you start thinking about a design, I would look at some tutorials on using WordPress if this is your first time. There is a lot online and on YouTube. You have access to many free themes, but keep the following in mind before designing:

  • Color – Use colors that are easy on your eyes because hard colors push people away. I was on so many websites for just a few seconds because the colors would be too difficult to see.
  • Right Sidebar – This is the best place for the sidebar as people are used to it. The right sidebar has gotten used to many bloggers and readers expect the sidebar to appear there. This is a great place to add banners, recent posts, new products and services.
  • Top navigation – you have the menu above as this is the first thing people should see. You can explore options and navigate wherever you want.
